TripAdvisor Doesn’t have Shambhala Deals: Accepting the Liebster Award

Last week something terrific happened. Geeks Play Games was nominated for the Liebster Award by the amazing Kim from Later Levels! For the uninitiated; their blog features fun and interesting video game content written by experienced gamers and geeks. They offer fresh opinions and insights into the gaming community that I just love to read. As a new blogger struggling to make a presence in the vast blogosphere, Later Levels was one of the first blogs that I had personally connected with. If you haven’t already, please go check-out Later Levels. In fact, here is a recent article from them feature one of my personal favorite video game couples, Nate Drake and Elena Fischer:

The Liebster Awardunbenannt-1

The Liebster Award is a community award whose purpose is to gain recognition for lesser know blogs and bloggers that the nominator deems worthy of peoples time. Since Geeks Play Games started as a university project relatively recently, receiving recognition like this from members of the video game/geek culture blogging community is very humbling, and I am extremely thankful to my friends at Later Levels, and the rest of my fabulously geeky readers.

Recipients of the Liebster Award are required to answer questions posed by the party that nominated them to help introduce the nominee’s personality and interest. So, let’s do this:

How would you describe yourself if you can only use video game terms? Off-meta is honestly the first term that comes to mind. In video games (mostly eSports and competitive titles) the “meta” is the easiest/most proficient way of playing the game, however it is not the only way to play. For example, when certain characters are “in-meta” it means they are the strongest at the professional level. Off-meta characters are not popular at the time, but this does not mean they are useless. It just takes the right person who knows how to play the character to its fullest potential. In this way, I am off-meta.

If you could visit any location from a game, where would you go?

I’m going to assume this is meant to imply fictional game locations; in which case this is still next to impossible for me to answer with one location. There are so many environments/locations in games that I wish I could just walk into. However, Shambhala from the ‘Uncharted’ series is first and foremost. Ever since the end credits of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves the fantastical lost city of Shambhala has captivated my imagination. Whether it’s the breathtaking scenery or the tantalizing legends surrounding the city, Shambhala is at the top of my list to search on TripAdvisor (if only).

Who would be the worst video game character to be stuck in a lift (elevator for us Americans) with? I have two answers for this one; a practical answer, and an emotional one. The practical one is Roadhog from Blizzard’s Overwatch. Due to his size and penchant for grabbing people with his chain, sharing a space with the swine-tank would be extremely uncomfortable. My emotional answer is Estelle from Tales of Vesperia, simply due to how excruciatingly annoying she is. Full disclosure: I only played through the first half of Vesperia, and Estelle still managed to creep under my skin. If I ever hear her say “Pow Hammer” one more time…

If a video game was made based on your life, what would the title and genre be? I see my life as one long adventure with many quests and boss battles. For this reason, a game based off of it would have to be an RPG, much along the lines of Final Fantasy or the Tales franchises. Furthermore, my friends and family are equivalent to the party of playable characters. As for the title, I think “The Sass Master” fits the most appropriately.

That was fun! Anyway, the second part of the Liebster award is nominating other blogs and providing questions for them to answer. I only have two nominations. One is a geek-themed treasure-trove, and the other is a beautifully written personal blog:

  • High BS ToleranceLove Letter to My Brain Injury This is a blog, and blogger, who is extremely close to my heart. As a real life friend, she has helped me out through many rough times, and I’ve watched her push through her own. Please give her a read.

So, here are my questions for you guys:

  • If you had to assume the life of any cartoon/anime character, who would it be, and why?
  • Hypothetically you were voted in as President of the United States, and decided to represent your geekiness to the country. Which character do you cosplay as during your inauguration and why?
  • Describe yourself in only movie titles.
  • What is one movie/tv show/video game that you think I (or everyone) needs to watch/play?

Lastly, I would like to thank my friends over at Later Levels one more time for this awesome recognition. I’m sorry I did not get my response out sooner, but school had me crazy this week.
